Who is tyesha renee?
I was born and raised in the live music capital of the world, Austin, Texas. I am 19 years old and a student at Tarleton State University, studying to achieve a B.A. degree in Communications. What makes me so special you ask? Well, first and foremost, I am someone that has been through many life tragedies and have still managed to push through to share my story. Whether it be through writing music, writing poems, and speaking to the youth, I have discovered that this is my purpose. I believe that music can heal the hurt, poems can calm any spirit, and speaking up can make a difference. I still have a lot to learn but I am willing to take the steps in becoming a more efficient writer. While I am still young and adventurous, I am taking time to increase the production of my songs and shaping my voice.
Now as for my story, I was born Tyesha Renae Nicole Johnson into a drug abusive family that lost all of their rights to me when I was four. My older brother and I were forced into placement with a children's shelter. As a result of my brother's bad behavior and verbal abuse towards me, we were separated for about 7-8 years. I bounced from two different homes, learning what it was like to be "the foster kid". At age nine, I was adopted by a family where I felt more at home and changed my name to Renee. I grew up there with three younger adopted sisters and several circulating foster children. Since I was born with cocaine in my system, I was never one of the brightest children in school among my sisters, but I managed to excel in other hobbies. I began to teach myself how to draw, earning many different T-shirt awards.
I wrote my first song in 2006, titling it "I'll see you again" for my brother when we finally reunited. I first realized that I loved to sing when I was five years old singing in my baptist church's little angels choir and since then nobody has been able to shut me up. I competed in many talent shows and only won a few but that never held me back from signing up for another. My music inspirations came from R&B artists like, Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, Brian McKnight, Tamia, TLC, and SWV. My writing started to increase in early high school years and my song book got so full I had to find another notebook. I also started to write many poems and entered them into competitions in middle school. It seems like all I ever did was write and make A's in english class. When
I was a junior in high school, I was given the opportunity to record my first single "Slow to Speak" and it was indeed a hit with everyone I knew and through many social networks. I met many producers within a year of "Slow to speak" being released and was blessed to be invited to many showcases of upcoming artists. Soon after my first single, I came out with "Appreciation" featuring local rapper Read Richarts. The song gave me a broad look on my music career and allowed me to work with other musicians. The most recent song that was released was "Roses" in 2013 and I can say that the whole song was a true story.
All in all, out of all of my accomplishments and life experiences, I write about what's real to me and maybe real to others. I love being able to relate with my audience and grab their attention. I am very open with working with other artists and would love to hear from you! Feel free to check out my other pages and keep a look out for new music, song covers on my youtube page and a possible music video this summer!
Peace and Love, Tyesha Renee
